Power Distribution & Controls
The modular structure of the SmartROS® operating control software, along with proprietary hardware components, enable automation of the drilling process. The holistic integration of hardware and software allows for the addition and/or removal of rig components without timely and costly upgrades.
To further support automation, Canrig offers the following power distribution and rig operating control systems:
- SmartROS operating control system software enables the driller to consistently execute and maintain safe, reliable operation of the drilling rig
- Customizable, enclosed driller’s cabin purpose-built to house operating controls and optimize work space requirements
- Power house incorporates best-in-class electrical components packaged to optimize the safety and reliability for any drilling application
Power House
The power house is designed with flexible PLC input/output controls that can be expanded to accommodate any size drilling rig. These controls may be easily assigned and configured for varying equipment requirements.
Primary components such as the generator controls, main switchboard, and VFD units are field-proven and driven by Canrig’s firmware, which ensures a perfectly matched and highly reliable system with no interfaces to third-party equipment.

Driller’s Cabin
The climate-controlled driller’s cabin is custom made and designed to optimize available drill floor space.
Three-dimensional modeling of the rig floor enables ideal positioning of the driller’s control chair, enhancing safety and operational efficiency. The cabin provides integrated joystick control, utilizing PLC technology. Additionally, touch-screen controls provide enhanced monitoring, control of rig equipment and visibility of drilling parameters.
To decrease complexity, Canrig can locate rig floor MCC’s and VFD’s in the cabin. Buildings can also be provided for various area classifications and requirements.
